Substructure Complete at Blairgowrie Recreation Centre

Posted on October 18, 2023

Substructure works are now complete at the new Blairgowrie recreation centre. With the project being built to Passive House standards, this was particularly challenging when constructing the swimming pool section of the project.

With over 9000m2 of insulation to be laid to Passivhaus specification, attention to detail and a high quality of workmanship was required to ensure the build achieves Passive House status. Insulation of varied thicknesses was built up to achieve the required thermal properties. Using a dual SIKA waterproofing system with pre applied membrane and concrete additive, this will ensure the building is protected from the elements and safeguard the integrity of the structure.

Over 3000m2 of 300mm RC raft slab was constructed along with a sloped slab section to the swimming pool and full perimeter slab edge thickening. Perimeter RC basement walls were constructed to form the external structure of pool and accessible basement to the plant rooms.

As the main structure is a CLT frame, this required a full perimeter upstand to be formed.

An external RC retaining wall was also constructed to accommodate a new stepped access and accessible ramped access to the existing high school.
