Case Study

River Almond (Perth) Erosion Protection

Client: Perth & Kinross Council
Project Value: £148,361
Start Date: September 2018
Contract Duration: 8 weeks

Project Outline

Kilmac have been successful in securing the erosion protection measure to the River Almond from Perth & Kinross Council.

Working closely with our Client and SEPA our methodology for undertaking the works was discussed and approved to allow the works to proceed in earnest to ensure the works were undertaken and completed prior to the CAR Licence expiring.

Due to the time restraints we were required to work in four areas along the river at the same time.

The main area for work was undertaken in Area 1 whereby the bank had to be excavated back to allow in the stabilisation of the bank with the placement of 1000m3 rock armour, coir matting and the replacement of the headwall, which as you can see had been dislodged due to the erosion of the river bank.

The “crocodile” will give you an impression of the scale of the fill imported.

Area 3 of the project consisted of the same work but carried out with limited room under the old A9 Bridge.
