Fife Central Retail Park

Project Outline

The works involved the groundworks for the 4 new retail units and car parking facilities on the location of the old Homebase at Fife Retail Park. The site involved a lot of interface with the public as the remainder of the retail park was open, therefore, works had to be planned carefully. It was also critical we hit programmed dates to allow the tenants into their units.


Kilmac were required to carry out all earthworks within the site, these included the bulk earthworks for the service yard, the removal of the existing concrete floor. The bulk dig to new formation of the building and then forming the floor to underside of concrete as per the engineers’ drawings.


Kilmac had to break out and excavate the existing foundation of the old building where required prior to installing all new foundations for the new building. The amount of concrete required within the foundation for the 4 new units was approx. 400m3

In-situ Concrete Works

Construct the reinforced service yard including central aco drain and brush finish, 170m3 of concrete within the service yard.

Construct a 75m long by 1.7m high in-situ reinforced concrete external retaining wall, including drainage and waterproofing. The wall was on a radius which added to the difficulty.


Construct Foul Drainage required including connection to existing drainage at the rear of the units and install a pumping main.

Construct Surface Water Drainage required including main drainage, filter drainage and land drainage, the main storm drainage tie in was on the road, therefore all street works were adhered too.

Construct attenuation bays to allow the water to be stored below the car park and released slowly through the hydro brake manhole.

Hard Landscaping

Supply and Install all kerbing (1400m) to the project

Supply and Install 1050m2 of Porous Block paving construction including gravels, etc

Supply and Install 1000m2 of paving flags including all construction for the shops frontage.

Supply and Install all capping and type 1 and grade for all access roads, playgrounds and footpath to required levels.

Carry out all tar works and white lining for the project.


Carry out all service trenching, surrounds and chambers for Incoming Water, Fire Main, Gas, Electricity, BT, Street/External Lighting and Lightning Protection.
