Project Outline

Construction of a new secondary school to replace the existing.  The new school was built on adjacent playing fields.  The new school includes sporting facilities including all weather pitches, swimming pool and outdoor grass pitches. Kilmac’s scope of works include earthworks, foundations, drainage, retaining walls, attenuation systems, roads, car parks, soft and hard landscaping.

Project Highlights

  • The earthworks required 20000 m3 of cut and fill.  Kilmac were involved in the redesign and quantification of this element of works to ensure a cut fill balance was achieved, minimising project costs. These works were carried out over a 6 week period.  The material was managed carefully onsite to allow cut material to be successfully placed as structural fill. These works were completed 6 weeks ahead of programme allowing a substantial programme gain.
  • Kilmac suggested foundation changes to the design team to simplify the design to avoid a potential future programme conflict during the construction of the swimming pool.
  • Kilmac installed  900m3 of concrete foundations in  4 weeks, 4 weeks ahead of programme.
