Posted on August 28, 2024

Project Overview

The Craighall Primary School project, executed in collaboration with Balfour Beatty, is a significant development aimed at enhancing educational infrastructure and providing top-tier facilities for students and staff. The project has been executed in multiple phases, with a focus on delivering high-quality construction while adhering to strict timelines.

Phase 1 Completion

The initial phase of the project has been successfully completed, laying the foundation for subsequent stages. This phase involved crucial groundwork and preparatory tasks essential for the overall progress of the construction. Phase 1 works started in February 2024 and completed August 2024.

Phase 2 Progress

Taking advantage of on the favourable weather conditions, several elements of Phase 2 have also been completed ahead of schedule. Key accomplishments include:

  • Car Park Development: The car park has been fully kerbed and surfaced up to the binder level, including the formation of a new entrance to the school. This provides a functional and safe parking area for staff and visitors.
  • MUGA Pitch Construction: The multi-use games area (MUGA) pitch has been kerbed and brought to the sub-base level, setting the stage for further development.
  • Utility Installations: Extensive utility ducting and the installation of lighting and CCTV column sockets have been completed around the school building, car park, and playground, ensuring the infrastructure is in place for essential services.
  • Landscaping and Earthworks: Topsoil has been laid across various pitches, with the pitch contractor now actively working on-site. Perimeter embankments, kerbside areas, and main landscaping zones have also been prepared.
  • Sprinkler Tank and Bin Store Slabs: Both the sprinkler tank and bin store slabs have been completed, including the necessary drainage and ducting, providing critical infrastructure for the school’s operations.
  • Parking and Access: Hammerheads and parking bays have been formed, improving accessibility and vehicle manoeuvring within the school grounds.

Project Success

The project is currently running approximately three weeks ahead of Balfour Beatty's original schedule, a remarkable achievement given the additional works that were undertaken. The early completion of the car park, concrete slabs, and disabled parking bays has provided Balfour Beatty with invaluable clean lay-down areas, facilitating better site organisation and material segregation for various trades.

Client Satisfaction

The proactive approach and efficient project management have resulted in a very satisfied client. The progress to date not only meets but exceeds expectations, setting a strong precedent for the remainder of the project. Kilmac would like to thank Balfour Beatty for their proactiveness and willing to adopt a collaborative approach, allowing us all function as one team.
