Last week, we were proud to play our part in Scotland's first Sunbelt Rentals Beacon Schools Programme, welcoming eight students from Baldragon Academy and St John's High School for an action-packed week designed to inspire the next generation of construction professionals.
Across four days, students experienced first-hand what life in our industry is really like through a mix of practical activities, interactive workshops and real business challenges. The programme included:
🔹 AI and emerging technology workshops
🔹 A Social Sustainability Masterclass
🔹 Dragon's Den business challenge, where teams pitched their ideas to a panel of judges
🔹 CAT & Genny training and construction challenges
🔹 Careers in construction sessions, exploring the many different pathways into the industry
🔹 Site visits, plant demonstrations and simulator experiences
🔹 Opportunities to meet apprentices and industry professionals to hear about their own career journeys.
At Kilmac, we were delighted to host several of the programme days, giving students an insight into our business, our values and the diverse careers available within civil engineering and construction.
It was fantastic to see their confidence grow throughout the week. Whether presenting business ideas, tackling technical challenges or asking thoughtful questions, every student embraced the opportunity and stepped outside their comfort zone.

Collaboration between industry and education is essential if we're to inspire young people and develop the skilled workforce our sector needs for the future.
