Pinewood ASN, Blackburn

Project Overview
Kilmac are delighted to have continued their relationship with BAM Construction, with the successful delivery of the groundworks package to new Pinewood ASN School in Blackburn, as part of a £26.5M investment on schools dedicated to supporting pupils with additional support needs, and is the third extension to Pinewood in the last 12 years.

Working within a live environment
The continued operation of the existing Pinewood ASN school throughout the construction period required Kilmac to plan and prepare their works operations and sequences to facilitate the live environment in which the site was situated. Cognisance of busy drop off and collection times was taken into consideration, along with continual interface with the public and school pupils. Health & safety measures and strict traffic management plans were adhered to throughout.

Delivery solutions within worldwide pandemic

Works comprising of Bulk Earthworks; Foundations; Drainage; Services; Hard Landscaping; Street Furniture, & Play Equipment; were completed within challenging conditions of global materials shortages and pressures on supply chain.  Project delivery during times of the worldwide Covid-19 pandemic resulted in obstacles and problems in regards to material delivery shortages.  In order to maintain our programmed delivery, and meet the Client’s goals, Kilmac resourced from multiple supplies, with cement delivery coming from all over the UK.  Bespoke items of street furniture were also sourced and supplied, to ensure the end product meeting Client expectations was achieved.
